Wartime Foot Care
Following harsh lessons with trench foot during the First World War, British commanders made infantry foot care a daily priority. Soldiers across Northwest Europe, North Africa, and Burma carried these tins to stop moisture build-up and blisters on long marches. Available in Distressed surplus condition, each example shows genuine period patina from wartime storage.
Field-Ready Tinplate Design
Each container stands 9.5 cm tall and was built to hold 1 3/4 oz (50 g) of powder. The body uses pressed sheet metal formed with an oval shape that packs flat into a canvas wash roll without rolling away. A top friction cap protects the dispensing spout, while the recessed base allowed secure stacking inside wooden transit crates.
Living History and Display
For WW2 living history reenactors, this tin perfectly fills out a 1937 Pattern webbing pack or soldier wash roll. The front features original black stencilled lettering. Unusually, these containers still retain their original wartime powder inside. Due to age, this original powder is preserved strictly for historical collection and not for use.
