This is an original Romanian Army rucksack issued to Cold War military forces.
Cold War Military Heritage
Issued to infantry and mountain units across the Socialist Republic of Romania, this original Cold War rucksack was built for arduous frontline service. Known in Romania as a troop rucsac, each pack features the distinctive teardrop profile influenced by early mountain rucksacks. Authentic ink stamps such as ADMIS verify passing strict military quality control.
Canvas and Leather Construction
The body is made from thick olive green cotton canvas tightly woven to repel woodland brush and wet conditions. Heavy-duty leather shoulder straps secure to an upper leather yoke and connect via steel roller buckles and bottom snap hooks. Leather edge piping and reinforced bottom corners prevent abrasion wear when dropped on rough gravel or forest floors.
Field Storage and Rigging
Offering roughly 35 litres of interior volume, the main hold secures with a hemp cord cinch and a buckle-down top flap. A deep side canvas pouch holds a standard water bottle or hatchet, while leather loops accept utility straps for attaching a bedroll or shelter half. A quilted back panel provides steady cushioning against unpadded tools during long marches.
Distressed Surplus Condition
Supplied in honest Distressed surplus condition, these bags show authentic field use and long storage. You can expect characterful scuffs on the leather, patina on the steel buckles, or faded canvas shades. All original straps and fasteners remain fully functional. Treating the leather with dubbin or beeswax conditioner will keep the hide soft for years of active service.
