These are original British Army 37 Pattern L-straps issued for field load-carrying webbing sets.
Historical Design & Purpose
Introduced under List of Changes §B1623 in 1938, these shoulder straps converted the standard 37 Pattern haversack and large pack into a practical backpack. Issued in handed left and right pairs, they supported soldiers in marching and battle order across global wartime theatres.
Field Hardware & Modular Attachment
Each strap features a wide 2-inch shoulder section tapering to 1-inch webbing with protective brass chapes. The integral brass hooks secure directly to tabs on the basic ammunition pouches, balancing pack weight across the torso while removable buckles anchor to the pack base.
Surplus Character & Modern Utility
Woven from durable cotton canvas, these original surplus straps remain in functional Grade 1 condition. They may display period maker stamps, soldier markings, or minor brass patina. Ideal for completing authentic historical webbing or rigging vintage canvas bags for bushcraft.
